My name is Shimrit Elisar. I am a writer, an online dating expert and also work as an online marketing professional.
My book, Everyone’s Guide to Online Dating, is the first online dating guide to be written specifically for the UK market. In it, I draw on my online dating/socialising experience, as well as my professional online dating experience in order to provide a comprehensive guide suitable for both new and seasoned Internet daters.
I have 18 years’ experience of Internet social platforms. It actually predates the invention of the Web itself, as I was one of the first women to use IRC, the Internet’s first international chat platform. While using it, I became, I believe, one of the first online daters.
I spent five years researching and monitoring online communications on some of the UK’s most high-profile online communities, such as the BBC forums, ITV and Sony Playstation forums as well as several popular dating sites.
From 2005 - 2007, I worked for Allegran Limited, the UK’s largest provider of online dating services at the time whose sites include Loopylove, GirlsDateForFree, DatingForParents and more.
I started off as a moderator/customer advisor, assisting hundreds of people with their online dating experience. During my time at Allegran, I had the chance to study thousands of dating profiles and research many hundreds of dating case studies, some successful, some less so. Following that, I became the company’s marketing manager. I then set off on my own as a freelance consultant and have spent the last 2 years as an online dating advisor and marketing freelancer.
I hold a degree in Creative & Media Writing from Middlesex University, where I specialised in short fiction.
