Allegran sold again?

November 18th, 2008

Looks like the online dating company I used to work for has been sold for a second time, having sacked 70% of its employees only recently. I understand it’s been sold to Easydate. It’s a real shame that a company that used to be so successful went downhill so quickly to the point where it was apparently bleeding money on a daily basis. It used to be one of the most lucrative companies of its kind and helped many thousands of people find love. This sad ending is a long way away from the happy-go-lucky start up Allegran was when I started working there, staffed by brilliant people, many of whom I still call my friends today.

I was one of the first to leave after the original management changes, as I don’t suit the corporate lifestyle and it was obvious that was the way the company was headed. It seems Allegran on the whole didn’t suit the corporate lifestyle either, which is not at all surprising to me.
As much as I enjoy being right about my predictions at the time, I feel for those who stayed behind after having built the company into a great success story, only to see all their hard work go to waste.

I’ve heard some pretty bad things about the company over the past year and a half and have resisted commenting so far, but now it looks like things have finally gotten as bad as they possibly can. I am amazed at how things could have gone so badly when the original offerings were performing so well.

It’s a shame that it’s the Allegran ground staff who are paying the price for other people’s mistakes when there are others who are directly responsible for its ultimate failure. Sadly, that’s the way it usually goes.

I hope everyone there will find a better alternative soon and get the appreciation I know they deserve.
I also hope the Allegran sites will continue to function and, hopefully, provide better functionality for their members with an expanded database of daters.

Hi Thank you for the reply. I have tried that address too, but letters to that address remain unsigned for. Is Bleeding Heart actually an office that is staffed or just a mail address? I have spent hours working to get in contact with them, there is a real paper trail of addresses.

    Thanks again

All the addresses are actual offices. Northcliffe house belongs to the Daily Mail group that used to own the company. I wonder why your letters were not signed for. Why are you trying to contact them anyway?

Hi, the letter to the P O box number that i was given 2 weeks ago has been returned by the post office stating box cancelled. I am trying to contact them as I feel the site G D F F is in contravention of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975.

The number I called which is associated with all the addresses which is a London number ending 3510 seems to ring out strangely and is then answered “Allegran” the guy I spoke to on this number wasnt to forthcoming when i asked for a confirmed address, after sometime he gave me the P O Box number refered to above. The strange thing he didnt know it of the top of his head but tapped into a computer to get it.. seemed strange?

The address I gave you should work, but you won’t get anywhere with your complaint. You’re not the first one to have raised this issue. Back when I used to work there, we occasionally had people complaining. The official answer is that the site operates a “ladies’ night” policy, in the same way that clubs do, which aims to address the fact that online dating sites always have more men on them than women. By offering free access to women, they are helping to improve the balance and therefore making the site better for the men too. In reality, the site does have a good male to female ratio compared to most sites out there.

The reason for the funny ringing is that they are outsourcing their phone support to a foreign company. Maybe they are not yet up to date about the postal address after the recent sale.

They don’t like giving out the office address because of the nature of the business. Back when I used to work there we had some problems with lonely men turning up and harrassing the female staff (you couldn’t make this up).

Thank you once again for your reply I will send to the address again. I think if my complaint is not answered in a satifactory way I will be heading for the courts. I have done some indepth research into this and I am confident I will win. I have several case law examples concerning “ladies nights” etc etc.
