Online Dating Tips: Beware of feature madness
July 2nd, 2007
There is a huge difference between dating sites in terms of the features they offer. Some are pretty basic, while others offer a whole array of impressive-sounding features like video-chat, automatic matching, gift-giving, etc.
The important thing to remember when choosing a site, is that the most important thing the site could ever offer you is the person you will fall in love with. The people dating on the site are the most important feature and should come above all else.
When assessing a site to see whether it’s worth your money, think about which features are likely to be really useful to you, rather than be blinded by shiny shiny offers. I know too many people who buy mobile phones for their slick design and impressive hi-tech features (like video downloads) and end up disappointed because their phone sounds completely crap and keeps dropping calls.
Always remember what made you join a dating site in the first place and start your assessment by checking out the people on the site, rather than the appearance of the site itself.
You may be a camera chat addict who really needs to be able to chat on site rather than, say, on MSN messenger, but for most people, a more basic site with the perfect clientele would do just fine.
I know plenty of people who are dating on clunky, basic sites with bare-minimum functionality and loving every minute of it.
As long as a site enables you to search for people and communicate with them (even if it’s only by standard message), it may well be worth using if the people on it are the sort of people you want to meet.

It doesn’t matter how many features a site has, and it seems to me that the more features a site has then the members are probably deficient in some way. As long as you have a way to contact other members and the quality of the members is there, then you have a good dating site.

It’s okay for a dating site to have many features but I think users will still prefer the regular features they usually have in any dating sites.

I find the best dating sites are the ones with easy to use features. Some sites have so many features that I feel like I’m getting further and further from my ideal match than closer. Personally, I like a simple age/location sexual prederence/ photo/recent visit/ site.
The worst thing is when the ones you want never get back to you as I talked about at my personal blog over here..
Just my 2 cents
