Smile, you’re on a dating site!

If you want to increase the level of responses you get on dating sites, here’s a handy tip: make sure you’re smiling in your photo!
This is especially true for men, but women, too, can give up the whole aloof image thing – it only makes you look silly.
At the end of the day, let’s face it, you’re on a dating site. There’s nothing wrong with online dating, obviously, but being on a dating site in itself does indeed send the message that you are looking for someone. So sure, some people are bound to be desperate to find someone, while others would be more casual about the whole thing, but ultimately nobody goes on a dating site to “just have a night out with my mates and see what happens” like they do in pubs, clubs and other such places. People go on dating sites to find and date other people, be it for love, fun or just sex. Either way, there’s no point going through the whole process of setting up a profile, uploading a picture, etc. and then pretend like you’re not really interested in meeting people.
As I said above, some women can get away with putting up pictures where they are not smiling, but beware – I’ve seen plenty of such pictures where the woman just ends up looking like a scary nutter. For men, who are notorious for having no idea which pictures make them look appealing (gross generalisation, of course, but still pretty accurate), looking friendly and fun in the profile picture is a must. Any woman with at least some experience of dating online will know that men have no clue when it comes to picking pictures. If she thinks you look like a fun guy, she might decide to meet you even if your picture is not that great.
If you look unpleasant and grumpy, though, most women are likely not to bother contacting you of their own accord, and you’re bound to have to work a lot harder to get anyone to respond to your messages.
If you have a few pictures up, it’s fine to have one when you are not smiling, if you think it’s a good representation, but for your main picture – smile, smile and smile some more!
